Disc Golf Targets

A disc golf target is the object that players aim for when throwing their discs in the game of disc golf. The most common and official type of target is called a disc golf basket.

Components of a Disc Golf Basket:

  1. Chains: These hang from a circular metal band and are designed to catch the disc mid-air.

  2. Catcher Basket: Below the chains, this basket catches and holds the disc after it hits the chains.

  3. Pole: The central vertical pole supports the structure.

  4. Top Band (or Chastity Belt): Often a brightly colored ring at the top to help players see the target from a distance.

How It Works:

  • When a player throws the disc, the goal is to hit the chains so the disc drops into the basket.

  • A disc is considered "holed out" or "completed" when it comes to rest in the basket or supported by the chains.

Other Types of Targets:

While the basket is the standard, some casual or temporary courses may use object targets like marked trees, poles, or tone poles (which make a sound when hit).
